Skill Levels
All levels (Beginner - Expert)
Stage 1 - Normal Setup
The goal of this stage is to warm up and familiarise yourself with your preferred setup position before starting on the drill.
Step by Step
- Choose the club you want to work on (we'd suggest starting with a mid iron) and setup to hit from your preferred ball position and stance width for that club.
- Hit 5-10 shots towards a target from that same preferred position, focusing on making clean contact with the ball.
Stage 2 - Chase The Ball
The goal of this stage is to develop your skill in adjusting to different ball positions and push your ability to transfer your weight and shift your low point in resonse to different ball positions.
Step by Step
- With that same club you warmed up with, setup to hit from your preferred ball position and stance width for that club.
- Shift the ball 1 inch forward (towards the target) from your preferred position.
- Hit 1 shot towards the target from that new forward position, focusing on making clean contact with the ball.
- If you make clean contact and the ball flight is towards the target, move the next ball another 1 inch further forward again and hit (keeping your feet in the original position).
- Repeat until you do not make clean contact with the ball or hit a poor shot.
- Once you hit a poor shot, start over again by moving the ball back to it's original preferred position.
Note: You've won the game when you can reach the inside of your front foot with your ball position and still hit a clean shot. Repeat this drill whenever you want to work on making ball first then ground contact.
